If you have LOST an item or a pet calling the police will most likely be a waste of your time because most all police agencies do not make reports for LOST items or animals. Other than making a MISSING PERSONS report police agencies general only make reports for CRIMES that can be investigated so that they can then be prosecuted. If You LOOSE an item or animal that is not a crime and therefore a police report will not be made.
If you have fallen victim of a CRIME and you want to make a police report CALL 911 and explain the situation.
MAKE SURE
When making a police report there can be some issues that can cause you problems. Some times out of a lack of understanding or out off simple laziness sometimes a police agency or dispatch center ( DISPATCHERS are often not police officers and sometimes are a separate agency not directly part of the police force but simply a contact and dispatch center so keep that in mind.) SOMETIMES, if you live in one town or state and you are in another town or state when you were robbed the DISPATCHER or POLICE OFFICER my try and tell you to wait until you get home to make a police report - DO NOT WAIT - A report where the CRIME TOOK PLACE is where the report needs to be made.
IF FYOUR ITEM was INSURED, rather it was stolen or lost, of course call your insurance company AFTER you have made a police report. SOMETIMES if you call your insurance company to report a claim over a LOST item they will tell you to call the police, REMEMBER - POLICE AGENCIES DO NOT MAKE REPORTS FOR *LOST* ITEMS.
